Unfortunately, putting is sometimes overlooked by less-experienced golfers and those new to the game. Most spend a lot of time trying to perfect their swing and driving skills on the driving range, and spend very little time – if any – practising the art of putting. On the other hand, most golf pros spend hours upon hours on the practice green.
There is probably more choice of design of used putters than of any other type of golf club. Second hand putters could be an offset putter, belly putter, blade putter, mallet putter – and the list really does go on and on. Prices vary widely too – you can pick a cheap used putter up for £25, and you could easily spend upwards of £250.
As it is with many things in golf, when it comes to choosing which type of used putters will be best for you, it comes down to feel.
The shaft design of second hand putters is all-important and has a massive bearing on how the club feels in your hand. Most used putters these days have an off-set shaft. This means that the shaft is set over the ball, with the head behind it. This means that it is easier to get your head over the ball and see it more clearly. Crucially, it means that your hands will be ahead of the ball on impact – this is a key feature of an excellent putting shot.
